Encounter In The Desert
After finding cumin in Jaisal, I headed toward the royal capital of Lazerica - which has plenty of spices - in order to reproduce curry. www.ihavesinnedtranslation.com
Leaving Jaisal, the outside is a desert landscape.
There is nothing but the sky and sand stretching out endlessly.
And in such a desert world, I am traveling using Teleport repeatedly in the air as if to cut across that landscape.
There are no signs of life in sight.
That’s obvious. It is a dangerous region where monsters run rampant and the heat is intense.
Those who can’t use Water magic would probably become thirsty for water immediately.
In the land where sand dominates everything, there are mostly no such things as nature, and the word ‘harvesting’ has nothing to do with this place.
And maybe because it is in order to adapt to the desert that the few vegetation that grow here have an excessive amount of thorns with moving vines, making them seem unsuitable for consumption.
There are also animals that look like they could mix with the sand or large scorpion-like monsters, it was clear it wasn’t a place where you could casually go like the vicinity of Koryatt village.
Sometimes I could see people who looked like merchants riding Zuom moving and forming a single line.
Other than those times, it is rare to see anyone. www.ihavesinnedtranslation.com
「That being the case, it’s comfortable for me since I can travel without worrying about such things with Teleport」
Since there were no people, it was easier for me not to have to worry about people seeing me using Teleport.
It’s just a simple task of repeatedly casting long-distance Teleport while relieving the heat with Ice magic.
There’s no need for me to walk on the sand that tangles your feet, there’s also no exposure to the heat.
There are some dangerous monsters, but they are mostly lurking in the sand or above the sand, so from my point of view, they didn’t hinder me at all.
The contrast between the distinct brown earth and blue color of the sky is quite pretty. The green of the plains and the blue of the sky are also nice, but this is surprisingly not bad.
I continued to use Teleport calmly through the harsh environment of the desert.
◆
It’s been a few hours since I’ve been moving from Jaisal with Teleport.
I keep on using Teleport again and again despite feeling a little tired of the unchanging scenery no matter how much I travel.
And maybe because the scenery hasn’t changed at all that it feels like I’m not moving forward.
The scenery from the Misphilt kingdom to Jaisal was diverse and fresh and I didn’t feel very bored.
But, there’s nothing here but the sand and the plants. There is only sand on all sides.
If you let down your guard even for a moment and lose sight of your direction, it’s to the extent that you won’t know from which direction you came from. www.ihavesinnedtranslation.com
Occasionally, the desert monsters will start fighting like some sort of a large monster battle, but I don’t have the courage or hobby of watching such a frightening thing up close.
「Is there something interesting somewhere?」
A small town or an oasis is fine. I wonder if there’s anything out there.
For a while, I am Teleporting in the desert while literally scanning the surroundings as if searching for a needle.
I can see something that looks like a building in my field of vision.
「Oh, what’s that?」
When I tried to look at it better by gathering mana in my eyes, it looked like a temple buried in sand.
There are a number of pillars with magnificent carvings on them, but perhaps it’s because it has been so many years that they have completely decayed as more than half of them are buried in sand.
Is that possibly a desert ruin? I’ve often heard about it in my previous life, the oasis completely dried up and the town was abandoned.
「Let's go and check it out」
I was feeling tired and bored of traveling with Teleport so I decided to take a break and have a look at the place.
I etched the image of the ruins buried in sand in my mind and Teleport there.
The next thing I knew, I had landed on the ground in front of the ruins instead of the sky.
It felt like it had been a while since I walked on sand, probably because I’d been Teleport-ing in the sky the whole time.
I start approaching the stone building that looks like a temple while stepping on the soft sand.
It’s an impressive building that looks just like the Parthenon in my previous life.
However, the building has seen extreme deterioration due to the cracking and weathering over the years, this in turn, gave off a sense of emptiness.
Due to the strong wind, sand blew violently and the ruins were heavily covered with a large amount of sand.
There was also a lot of sand sticking to my clothes, but I gave up since dusting them off seemed an endless task.
It must have been an impressive temple before it deteriorated. But, it’s impossible to see it again now.
I can only imagine and guess at how the building looked now. That’s probably why there is romance in historical buildings and why historical researchers are studying them.
I found a spot shaded by a pillar and sat on it while thinking of such things.
I don’t know what kind of place this was, or what kind of people lived here in the past.
Now it has become nothing more than a decent resting spot when you cross the desert.
I lie on my back in the shade.
The shaded part is not cold, but it’s enough to just lie down like this.
As expected, I didn’t plan on sleeping in the desert, but as I closed my eyes for a bit, I could hear what sounded like footsteps.
「Hm?」
Even when I opened my eyes and tried to look around, there was no one else except me.
And when I lay down again and this time tried to put my ear on the ground, I could hear the sounds of footsteps more clearly than before.
Judging from the echo of the sounds, it’s probably two people. www.ihavesinnedtranslation.com
「……could there be an underground area here?」
As I was muttering those words, a decaying pedestal nearby slid with *gogogogo*.
Then, two people slowly emerge from there.
They have darker skin than Eric so both of them must be Lazurians.
The dark-haired person leading the way is wearing a hood so I couldn’t see their face, but you can tell that it’s a woman judging from the hair length and the feminine curves of her body.
She is wearing gold bracelets on her wrists and there is a sword with a flexible curve hung on her waist. And judging from the sharp atmosphere when she walks, she’s probably a bodyguard.
And there is a man behind the woman. He has a peculiar black hair, but he has a well-proportioned facial features.
He has yellow eyes and long eyelashes like a woman. He’s an ikemen no matter how you look at him.
Should I describe him as having a sweet demeanor?
……these people. They just came out from underground, right? Does this temple have an underground area?
As I was watching them in blank amazement, the other party also seemed to notice me as the woman hurriedly pulled out her sword from her waist.
「Who are you! How long have you been there!?」
She pointed the curved sword that looked like a scimitar at me and questioned me in a vigilant manner.
The sunlight reflects off the scimitar, making it very dazzling.
I thought they wouldn’t suddenly point something dangerous at me, but this place is a desert full of dangerous monsters so I guess it’s natural.
「Eh? I’ve been here for a while now though?」
「What are you doing in this kind of place?」
「I’m tired so I cooled off in the shade」
「…………」
Even when I answered her question honestly, the woman still looked at me as if she was looking at a suspicious person.
I’m actually sitting in the shade. It was truly like that so there’s no other way to put it.
Somehow this woman was strangely scary so when I looked toward the man standing behind her, I saw him seemingly watching us with a look that felt like he was watching something interesting.
……I feel like this person is also not good, in a different way.
「Umm, what were you doing here? It looked like you both came out from underground.」
「It, it’s none of your business」
「We were investigating the temple underground」
「Salva-sama!? 」
The woman was trying to evade my question, but the man behind her easily confessed the truth.
「Hahaha. That boy saw us coming out from underground. It will just create distrust even if we try to
evade the question, yes?」
「That may be true but.....haa, fine then」
The woman sighed as if giving up after hearing the man casually saying that with a smile on his face.
Wait a minute. The woman called this man with a 『-sama』 just now, didn’t she?
Meaning, there is a high possibility that he is holding a position that is at least comparable to a noble.
「Hey there, boy. My name is Salva Lazur (サルバ=ラズール). I am the second prince of this country. Meeting in a desert like this must be fate. How about we get along?」
Just as I was starting to get a bad feeling about this, the man introduced himself with a really nice smile on his face. www.ihavesinnedtranslation.com
