Idle Adventurers
The next day, after I receive the massage from Elza, the muscle pain is completely gone.
Just in case I spend my time leisurely in the mansion, but perhaps it’s because I'm feeling good that I end up bored, relaxing in the mansion. On days like this, going out is the best thing to do.
I’ve been relaxing in a quiet environment, so I feel like going to a slightly noisy place.
Speaking of a noisy place in the royal capital, it’s probably the Adventurer’s Guild.
I haven’t shown myself recently, so let’s go there before the adventurers start urging me.
Having decided that, I leisurely head to the Guild from my mansion.
When I arrive at the Guild, it's noisy with the adventurers who have been drinking since early morning.
「There are strangely a lot of adventurers, huh?」
The Guild’s bulletin board is updated early in the morning. Because of that, the adventurers wake up early and compete for lucrative requests.
So at this time of the day, most adventurers are out doing requests, and the inside of the Guild is deserted.
But despite that fact, there are a lot of adventurers hanging out inside the Guild. It’s not like they are carefully selecting the requests or having a briefing session.
They are simply gathering at the attached tavern, eating and drinking, nothing more.
「Hello, Kusha-san. There are strangely a lot of people gathering inside but, is there some celebration or something?」
「Kureto-san! You finally came!」
When I calls out to her, Kusha let out a voice that sounded deeply moved and took my hand.
Having just arrived, I am perplexed at her enthusiastic tone.
「Umm, what’s the matter?」
「Please listen, Kureto-san! The adventurers have stopped accepting requests, you know~! There are now so many unfulfilled requests piled up on the wall!」
Kusha tearfully pleads.
When I look at the bulletin board, the wall is covered with a thick pile of posted requests.
It has gotten so thick that it's practically growing out of the wall.
It's my first time seeing the bulletin board with so many piled-up requests.
「This is a serious problem for the guild. Just how did this happen?」
「Kureto-san was the cause」
「Eh? It’s my fault!?」
I can only be surprised when she said I was the main cause.
「Everyone has become completely hooked on Kureto-san’s convenient magic, and now they whine and throw a fit, saying they don’t want to go anywhere far without your magic.....」
「A, aaahー……」
I was planning to protest for being the main cause of it, but when I think of the reason Kusha gave me, it’s only natural if it was said it is my fault.
「But, even adventurers can’t make a living without accepting requests, right?」
Being an adventurer is like being a freeter, isn't it? No matter how troublesome it is, you can’t survive without making money.
「Thanks to Kureto-san’s magic this year, we managed to complete plenty of requests in one day, and there was also the Harpy’s subjugation. So the adventurers are still doing well financially」
「Aaahー」
Apparently, the adventurers in the royal capital have become quite wealthy, and they can live comfortably without working that much.
If you have money, there is no reason to push yourself to work at the risk of your life.
Rather than earning a small income while I'm not here, they are planning to efficiently earn quite a lot when I arrive. It might be reasonable for the royal capital’s adventurer to think like that.
「Kureto-san……!」
Just as I am wondering what to do, Kusha take my hand and look up a me with looking up at me with tear-filled eyes. I can also feel the gazes from the other staff members waiting behind her.
I'm partly the cause of this situation, so it seems that Kusha and the other staff will end up in trouble if I don’t help them here.
「I understand. Let’s do it then」
「Thank you very much」
Kusha thank me, her expression brightening.
Leaving the reception counter, I head to the tavern where the adventurers hang out with a wry smile at her overly delighted reaction.
「Teleporter's here. I’m going to do teleporting services now, are there any adventurers who want to be teleported?」
「Oooh! The teleporter is here, isn’t it! Oi, hurry and choose a request!」
「I can make a lot of money with him here!」
When I tell them I’m doing teleporting services, the adventurers react immediately and spring into action.
It seems like they are willing to work properly if the teleporter are here. Though, it’d be a bit of a problem if they stop accepting requests when I’m not around. I probably need to give the adventurers a warning.
「I would like to say something before I start sending people」
When I raise my voice, the noisy, bustling adventurers suddenly stop moving.
「These days, there are unfulfilled requests accumulated in the guild. Although my teleportation service is convenient, it will be a bit of a problem if the requests aren’t taken. I’m also not always in the royal capital. If this situation continues, the guild may also decide to take some kind of countermeasures. For example, imposing punishment if no one takes the requests for a long time. In order not to let this happen, I hope everyone continues to properly take the requests like always, even if I’m not here」
Perhaps the adventurers also understand the gravity of the situation when I speak to them in a serious tone, as each of them responds in acknowledgement.
As adventurers who are working steadily through requests, they probably feel guilty seeing the piled-up requests on the bulletin board. I am surprised at the more honest reaction than I expected from them.
Now there will probably be no more piled-up, unfulfilled requests even when I’m not around.
●
I sigh in relief inside the guild after I finish teleporting a lot of adventurers.
There are almost no adventurers left hanging out in the guild, and it has become deserted. Instead, the guild staff, including Kusha, becomes busy and moves about frantically.
That’s going to happen if many requests are taken all at once.
Just as I am smiling wryly while drinking a fruit water, a familiar voice echoes from outside the guild.
「Those people’ve been slacking too much lately!」
「Umm, that’s right. Unfulfilled requests just keep piling on the bulletin board」
「I don’t want to interfere in other people’s business, but at this rate, it’s clear it’s going to cause problems with the guild’s management」
「……I also want to slack off」
「Idiot! The people who put up the request will be in trouble if we don’t accept them! I’ll give them a good scolding to those people who only slack off just because Kureto isn’t here! Oi! You lot!」
It's Helena who comes in while making a shrill cry.
Behind here are the member of the『Thunder Sword』 party Rox, Reid, and Arna.
「――eh, huh? There’s almost no one here?」
Helena mutters as if disappointed, and when she looks around, her eyes meet mine.
「Hello, Helena-san」
Helena happily comes over and slaps me on the back.
It’s probably her way of communication but still, she’s as strong as ever. The fruit water I just drink almost came out.
「……I see. It was Kureto-san’s doing that made the guild completely empty of those adventurers」
Seeing that a large number of the bulletin board’s requests have been reduced, Reid says that and seem to understand what happened.
「That’s right. Although I feel sorry for the guild if the same thing were to happen again so I have already warned them」
「Whaat. Kureto told them already?」
「Yes, and they seemed to accept it surprisingly easily」
「……it would be a problem if such convenient assistance were to be discontinued」
「Now Kureto might be the last person in the guild they want to anger, right!」
Arna quietly murmurs while Rox laughs heartily.
It’s not like I’m trying to threaten them, but they must have thought that I would never teleport them again if they get on my bad side.
Well, I guess it’s better than having the guild troubled for having accumulated a lot of unfulfilled requests.
「By the way, Kureto-san. Are you still doing teleportation service?」
Raising his glasses with his index finger, Reid asks me with a look full of expectation.
「Yeah. If you accept a request, I can send you over」
「Yay! We can complete requests with Kureto’s magic!」
「Oh? You only showed an obvious motivation after I showed up, aren’t you the same as the other adventurers?」
「No way! We properly accepted requests even when Kureto wasn’t here, you know! Don’t lump us together with the other people!」
Helena frantically denies it when I tease her as she looks pleased.
「I’m just kidding. I know Helena-san and the others are the serious type」
「O, ou」
She's someone with high aspirations, she even tried to warn the other adventurers for the guild’s sake. There’s no way people like them will slack off.
When I talk to her honestly, Helena looks somewhat embarrassed and steps away.
After waiting for a while, Helena and the others return, bringing several requests form with them.
They came to check whether I could properly teleport them to the requested locations.
「Oh? What is this Totsutotsu-thing?」 (トツトツ)
One of the requests is for collecting something called ‘totsutotsu’. As far as I can see from the request form, it seems like food, but I’ve never heard of it before.
「Hm? You don’t know about totsutotsu, Kureto?」
「Yeah, I don’t. Can you tell me what’s it like?」
「Totsutotsu is a fruit covered in spines. As autumn comes, it turns brow,n and its flesh ripens
「……it’s delicious when you boil it in saltwater」
Hm? Could it be that the fruits of this season are covered in spines, be chestnut? They’re also similar in that they’re boiled in saltwater and eaten.
「I see. So there was such a food」
「Why doesn’t Kureto come along if you’re free? It’s not just about collecting them but also subjugating monsters, but it’s not that dangerous」
「In that case, I’ll take you up on your offer and accompany you for a little while?」
「Ooh, sure thing. Follow us, follow us」
I decide to accept Helena’s invitation.
If it turns out to be chestnuts, I’d definitely want to pick some and eat them. www.ihavesinnedtranslation.com
